The study authors became aware of reports that some automated ultraviolet-C (UV-C) ultrasound probe high-level disinfection (HLD) devices were failing to achieve sporicidal efficacy during routine in-field validation (IFV) in Australian hospitals.1

In response, the authors set out to test the sporicidal efficacy of three commercially available automated HLD devices for ultrasound probes, in clinical settings across Australia & New Zealand (ANZ) via a rigorous IFV process using biological indicators (BIs).1

This study validated the sporicidal efficacy of these HLD devices utilising BIs with 106 bacterial endospores (G. stearothermophilus), consistent with TGA requirements.1
